Classic Pilot Proportions
Love the 42mm pilot case layout with the small-seconds sub-register at six and the high-contrast hands. Reminds me of vintage flight deck clocks, and the Japanese 9020 automatic movement winds very smoothly.
The watch
The Bersigar Polaris 1790 Rose Gold Brown is a 42mm pilot watch with a sunburst fumé brown dial, powered by a Japanese 9020 automatic movement. Highlights include a fixed black sapphire bezel, 100m water resistance and a sapphire crystal. We place it at Hour VI (Field & Adventure) of the Expedition season, for frequent flyers and outdoor weekends.
BERSIGAR Polaris 1790: Rose Gold Brown Edition
The BERSIGAR Polaris 1790 Rose Gold Brown combines warm dress-watch luxury with vintage instrument styling. Featuring a 42mm rose gold-tone case, an offset 4 o'clock winding crown, a scratch-resistant black sapphire bezel insert, and a sunburst fumé brown dial with an independent small-seconds register at 6 o'clock, this automatic timepiece delivers sophisticated presence and refined versatility.
Powered by the Japanese 9020 automatic mechanical movement, the self-winding caliber harnesses natural wrist kinetic energy to run central hours, central minutes, and a running small-seconds subdial. The dial transitions from a warm bronze-brown center to a darkened perimeter, accented by faceted applied rose gold-tone indices, skeletonized leaf hands with luminous fill, and an internal sapphire bezel ring. Machined from 316L stainless steel with a rich rose gold-tone finish, the watch is equipped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, an alligator-grain black leather strap with a deployant folding clasp, and an offset screw-down crown providing 10 BAR (100M) water resistance.

The sunburst fumé brown dial has a warm smoked gradient in real light that photos barely capture. Wears comfortably on my wrist at work, though the buckle could use one closer adjustment hole for hot afternoons.
Appreciate the note, Philip! That smoked brown gradient really comes alive outdoors.
Even with the rose gold finish and leather strap, this watch has real 100m water resistance and a tough black sapphire bezel. Wore it down around the harbor in San Pedro and legibility in bright sun is great.
Fumé brown dial and rose gold case look sharp. Comfortable on my wrist.
Thank you, Alan! Enjoy wearing the Rose Gold Brown edition.
Wore this out on Lake Conroe and around camp last weekend. The 100m water resistance and sapphire bezel shrug off water and brush, though the small-seconds subdial numerals are a little small without my glasses.
Thanks for the feedback, Ralph! Glad the 100m water resistance and sapphire bezel held up well out at Lake Conroe.
The black alligator-grain leather strap it ships with looks dressy, and when I swapped it onto an espresso brown suede strap for the weekend it matched the fumé brown dial and rose gold case even better.
I bought the Polaris 1790 primarily for the high-beat 9020 automatic caliber. It runs at 28,800 bph with a smooth small-seconds register sweep and has stayed within +5 seconds per day over two weeks. The 42mm rose-gold-tone 316L case, fixed black sapphire bezel, and fumé brown sunburst dial look warm and cohesive under the anti-reflective sapphire crystal on my 6.75-inch wrist.
