Exceeded My Hopes
I was nervous that a two-tone gold and steel watch at this price might look brassy in person. Once I opened it, the yellow gold tone against the black sunburst dial and solid 316L steel links looked rich and understated.
The watch

On the ChronoSeasons dial it sits at Hour I — Minimalist Dress, part of the Boardroom season — and suits days that start in a meeting room and end at dinner.

I have half a dozen Seiko and microbrand automatics, and this 42mm Luxaura 1645 is a solid addition. The Seiko NH35 hacks and hand-winds smoothly, keeping +4 seconds a day on my wrist, and the AR sapphire crystal keeps the black sunburst dial crisp. My only minor note is the date window is a little small without my reading glasses.
Took two links out of the two-tone steel bracelet to fit my wrist and the drape is super comfortable. The outer presentation box was fairly basic, though the watch itself is where the money went.
Thanks for the review, Albert! Glad the two-tone bracelet sized easily and feels comfortable on your wrist.
Bought this for my brother's retirement dinner. He loved the black sunburst dial and gold fluted bezel right away. The outer presentation box was fairly basic, though the watch is clearly where the money went.
After decades of wearing military pilot watches and GMTs, I wanted a traditional black-and-gold dress watch for family dinners. The Seiko NH35 sweep is smooth and the gold fluted bezel catches light cleanly.
Checked the specs over in Troy: solid 316L links with clean yellow gold plating, flat AR sapphire, and a Seiko NH35 running +5 sec/day. The lume on the hands and indices is decent for a few hours, though not an all-night torch.
Appreciate the detailed feedback, Blake! On dress-style baton indices the luminous fill is kept slim to preserve the dial profile, so we're glad the NH35 accuracy and sapphire crystal are serving you well.
I normally wear 42mm racing chronographs on the weekend, so this two-tone black-and-gold automatic gives me the same 42mm wrist presence in a much dressier three-hander package.
Wears really well with a charcoal suit for vendor meetings. The black sunburst dial with yellow gold baton indices and fluted bezel has a timeless executive look on my wrist.
