Wore this on a four-day trip out of Seattle and used the rotating sapphire bezel to track layover times. Legibility on the black teak dial is spot on in dim cabin light. My only minor gripe is that the leather strap was pretty stiff for the first 3-4 days before breaking in.

Aloha J., and congratulations to your brother on his retirement! That thick genuine leather strap does take a few wears to mold to the wrist, and it should stay comfortable for years.
Even though it is classed as a diver, the black dial and white-stitched leather strap give it an old-school military instrument look. I use the sapphire bezel to time intervals at the track and, and the NH35A automatic keeps steady time.
Measured the 43mm 316L steel case and checked the bezel alignment when it arrived. Zero play in the crown stem, crisp 120-click unidirectional bezel action, and the anti-reflective sapphire keeps the teak black dial clear under pharmacy lights.
Got this for my husband's 45th birthday. He is super picky about automatic watches and usually only wears dive pieces, so the Seiko NH35A movement and black leather strap with white contrast stitching won him over immediately. He wears it to work every day.
Took this up to Lake Michigan for a camping trip and swapped a rubber strap on for swimming before putting the black stitched leather back on for town. The 100m water resistance, screw-down crown feel, and bright lume on the obsidian teak dial make it a reliable outdoor companion.
I use the rotating dive bezel to track fuel tanks and flight legs out of Annapolis, and the high-contrast hands over the horizontal teak black dial are easy to read at a glance. The buckle and strap sizing could use an extra micro-adjustment hole for hot afternoons, but it is a solid flyer's watch.

For just over 300 dollars, getting a sapphire crystal paired with a unidirectional rotating sapphire dive bezel and a workhorse Seiko NH35A automatic is rare. On my wrist the 43mm case has presence, but the black leather strap with white stitching helps it contour nicely. Bezel clicks are positive with minimal backplay, and the NH35A is averaging +4 seconds a day.
