I have a dozen microbrand field and dive watches, and this Polaris 1790 stands out for running a thin, high-beat Japanese 9020 automatic caliber. Having 100m water resistance, an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and a matching green sapphire bezel at $220 is tough to beat. The small-seconds sub-register balances the olive green dial nicely, and lug-to-lug sits comfortably flat on my wrist.
Was hesitant ordering a $220 automatic online, but the glossy green sapphire bezel and solid 316L steel case look and feel like a much pricier piece. Runs accurately on my 7-inch wrist.
Swapped a waterproof canvas strap onto this for hiking and fly fishing. The 100m water resistance and green sapphire bezel handle wet weather and rocks easily, and the dial is super clear.
Picked up the green version after liking the blue one. Same tight 42mm case tolerances, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and steady timekeeping from the 9020 automatic on my wrist.
As a machinist and watch nerd, the Japanese 9020 automatic inside this 42mm Polaris 1790 is what sold me. It beats at 4Hz, winds smoothly, and has stayed within +4 seconds a day on my timegrapher. The olive green dial with the 6 o'clock small-seconds sub-register and green sapphire bezel look sharp on my wrist. Crown action was a little stiff out of the box before working it a few times.
Been wearing this to work and out on weekends. The olive green dial and matching green bezel look much richer in natural sunlight than on my laptop screen.

The 42mm 316L steel case and fixed green sapphire bezel are machined cleanly, and the Japanese 9020 automatic movement winds without grit. High-contrast hands against the olive dial make it very legible on my wrist.
