Powered by the Japanese 9020 automatic mechanical movement, the self-winding caliber harnesses natural wrist kinetic energy to power central hours, central minutes, and an independent running small-seconds subdial. The fumé-finished blue dial is detailed with applied faceted dagger indices, skeletonized leaf hands with strong luminous fill, and an internal 60-minute sapphire bezel scale. Machined from solid 316L brushed and polished stainless steel, the watch is equipped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, an embossed alligator-grain blue leather strap with a deployant folding clasp, and an offset screw-down crown delivering 10 BAR (100M) water resistance.

Finding a Japanese 9020 automatic movement under $250 is rare enough, and pairing it with a sapphire crystal and fixed sapphire bezel makes this Polaris 1790 a strong value in my collection. The 28,800 bph sweep on the small-seconds register at 6 o'clock is smooth, and the fumé blue dial transitions nicely from bright navy in the center to dark midnight at the flange. Wears comfortably on my wrist.
