42mm Matte Black Chrono on Rubber
Removed three links from the steel bracelet to fit my wrist, and also tried it on a black tropic FKM rubber strap. Putting it on rubber cuts the weight down and gives the 42mm case a vintage skin-diver vibe.
The watch
The Bersigar Ocular 1711 Classic Black Chronograph is a 42mm dive watch with a matte black dial, powered by a Seiko VK64 meca-quartz chronograph movement. Highlights include a unidirectional sapphire bezel, 100m water resistance and a sapphire crystal. On the ChronoSeasons dial it sits at Hour IV — Dive, part of the Expedition season — and suits swimming, sailing and beach travel.
BERSIGAR Ocular 1711: Classic Black Chronograph Edition
The BERSIGAR Ocular 1711 Classic Black unites deep-sea exploration durability with high-precision chronograph engineering in a sleek, monochromatic palette. Defined by a sculpted 42mm stainless steel case, an ultra-hard sapphire dive bezel with a high-contrast 15-minute scale, a bi-compax jet-black dial, and an ergonomic three-link stainless steel bracelet, this sports watch delivers professional aquatic utility and bold everyday wrist presence.
Powered by the Seiko Japanese TMI VK64 meca-quartz movement, the caliber pairs quartz-regulated timing accuracy with a mechanical chronograph mechanism that provides crisp pusher feedback and an instantaneous central seconds flyback reset. The dial features applied polished baton indices with strong luminous fill, faceted broad-arrow hands, a central red-accented tip on the chronograph hand, a framed date window at 6 o'clock, and dual sub-registers tracking 60-minute elapsed timing and a 24-hour cycle. Built from solid 316L brushed and polished stainless steel, the watch is equipped with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a knurled screw-down crown, and 10 BAR (100M) water resistance.

Sized the 316L steel bracelet for weekday wear, then swapped it onto a black-and-grey Bond NATO strap for the weekend. Both look right at home with the matte black dial and sapphire dive bezel.
Got this for my dad's 65th birthday since he wanted a tough black steel chronograph he could wear at the lake. Shipping carrier delayed the box by two days, though the watch itself is great and he wears it daily.
Happy 65th to your dad, Rob! Sorry for the two-day carrier delay, and we're glad he's enjoying the Ocular 1711 at the lake.
This is my second Bersigar chrono and the 42mm Ocular 1711 is a great daily beater. The unidirectional sapphire bezel has 120 crisp clicks, the matte black bicompax dial is super legible under the anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and the Seiko VK64 hybrid movement gives you mechanical chrono reset action without worrying about power reserve. Solid 316L bracelet links too.
I'm a sucker for symmetrical two-register chronographs, and the Seiko VK64 meca-quartz layout on this 42mm case is super clean. You don't get a running seconds hand, which actually makes it feel more like a mechanical piece until you hit the top pusher and watch the sweep hand fly. The sapphire bezel insert and AR crystal look great on my wrist.
Wears well with a sport coat or button-down when I'm showing commercial properties around Palm Beach. The gloss sapphire bezel frames the matte black dial, and the meca-quartz profile clears my shirt cuffs easily.
Matte black dial and dual sub-registers look super clean. Fits my wrist great.
Checked the build on arrival: 42mm 316L brushed and polished steel case, AR sapphire crystal, and a unidirectional sapphire bezel that lines up cleanly at 12. The VK64 pushers have a firm mechanical actuation.
Combining a unidirectional sapphire dive bezel with a Seiko VK64 meca-quartz chronograph makes this 42mm Ocular 1711 a versatile grab-and-go piece. The dual sub-registers at 3 and 9 give the matte black dial a clean symmetrical layout, and the chronograph hand sweeps at 1/5th of a second with an instant flyback reset. Wears very well on my wrist.
Between firehouse shifts and weekend flights, I use both the two-register Seiko VK64 chronograph and the unidirectional dive bezel constantly. Pushers have a positive click and the 42mm steel case feels stout.
