The watch

About this watch

Ocean Crawler Field Crawler - Crimson Abyss: a crimson abyss-dial field watch in a 40mm 316L stainless steel case, driven by a Swiss automatic Sellita SW200-1 movement. It brings 400m water resistance and a sapphire crystal. We place it at Hour VI (Field & Adventure) of the Expedition season, for travel, the outdoors and long days on the move.

Design

The Crimson Abyss dial sets the tone, set into a 40mm case in 316L stainless steel measuring 12.6mm thick with a 46mm lug-to-lug. A fixed bezel and sapphire crystal keep the Field Crawler clean, legible and ready for the trail.

Movement

Inside beats a Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1 automatic, running at 28,800 vph with roughly a 40-hour power reserve. It winds itself from the motion of your wrist — no battery, just a mechanical heart that has been individually regulated for accuracy.

Water resistance

Rated to 400 metres (40 ATM) of water resistance, the Field Crawler shrugs off rain, rivers and open-water swims. As a field watch it is built for surface adventure — hiking, travel, snorkelling and everyday wear — rather than saturation diving.

Who it’s for

The Field Crawler suits explorers and everyday adventurers who want one rugged, good-looking automatic that moves from trail to office without missing a beat.

Great Watch, Slow Carrier

I love military-inspired field watches with high-contrast numerals that you can read at a glance while driving or out on a job site. The Sellita movement and Kevlar strap are top notch. Though the shipping carrier delayed the package by two days.

Solid SW200-1 accuracy and deep red dial

After thirty years in the Navy I still gravitate toward overbuilt water-resistant watches, and a 40mm field piece rated to 40 ATM is right up my alley. The Sellita SW200-1 winds smoothly and holds +4 seconds a day. My only gripe after putting it on an aftermarket deployant bracelet is that the butterfly clasp lacks half-links, making it sit slightly snug on my 7.5-inch wrist during humid coastal afternoons.

Rich red dial in the sun

The crimson dial has way more depth in natural light than the product photos show. Only knocking off a star because the included leather strap was pretty stiff for the first three or four days before finally softening up.

Reply from ChronoSeasons

Appreciate the honest feedback, Harrison! That thick leather definitely takes a few days of wrist time to mold to your shape, and we are glad to hear it has broken in nicely for you.

Serious water resistance in a 40mm field case

Getting a true 400m depth rating out of a 40mm field watch that only measures 12.6mm thick is impressive engineering from Ocean Crawler. The Sellita SW200-1 inside my piece has settled in at +3 seconds per day on the timegrapher. The anti-reflective coating on the sapphire crystal cuts glare completely, letting the texture of the Crimson Abyss dial show through on my wrist. The crown threads engage cleanly with zero play.
